HealthShare Exchange Renews HITRUST CSF® Certification

Philadelphia, PA – October 26, 2020 – HealthShare Exchange (HSX), an industry leader in making electronic patient-care information available to the greater Philadelphia healthcare community, today announced that it achieved a renewal of its HITRUST CSF® Certification that it originally received in 2017. This certification places HSX among a small population of HITRUST-Certified Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) and affirms that HSX’s data analytics and hosting systems, data integration tools, MarketStreet APIs and HSX infrastructure meet key requirements for managing patient information and that the company is taking a risk-based approach to security.

The HITRUST CSF is a certifiable framework that provides a practical mechanism for organizations to ensure compliance with existing federal, state and industry security, privacy and regulatory requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Standards Framework, and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

“As an HIE focused on ensuring all teams across the full spectrum of patient care have access to the latest medical records and test results, it is critical that our member network operates with the confidence that our systems are compliant with industry standards and regulations,” said Brian Wells, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Information Security Officer at HealthShare Exchange. “The HealthShare Exchange team is dedicated to meeting or exceeding industry standards for maintaining the security and privacy of the patient data entrusted to us. As the cybersecurity challenges facing healthcare organizations evolve, we will continue updating our systems to adhere to the HITRUST Common Security Framework.”

With more than 400 member organizations, HealthShare Exchange gathers and securely delivers electronic patient health information on more than 12 million patients throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. It links together the disparate electronic medical records (EMR) systems of hospitals, health systems, health plans and other healthcare stakeholders across the continuum of care to support continuity of care throughout the community.
